West Bengal Government Issues New Restrictions on Media Interaction by Employees

The Government of West Bengal has issued fresh guidelines restricting government employees from sharing information or participating in media discussions without prior approval.

According to a circular issued by the Chief Secretary, officers from the All India Services, State Civil Service, Police Service, and other government departments must obtain government permission before taking part in television, radio, or other media programmes.

The directive also prohibits employees from directly or indirectly sharing official documents or confidential information with the press. Restrictions have additionally been placed on writing articles in newspapers or making public comments critical of government policies.

Officials have been instructed to avoid statements or disclosures that could negatively impact relations with the Centre or other states.

The circular has been sent to all state departments, district administrations, and police authorities for implementation. Source: News On Air
