US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Begins India Visit with Kolkata Tour Ahead of QUAD Meet

Marco Rubio began his first official visit to India with a stop in Kolkata, focusing on strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, technology, and energy security. Accompanied by his wife Jeanette Rubio, he visited the Missionaries of Charity, including the Nirmala Shishu Bhavan and the Mother House founded by Mother Teresa.

Rubio’s visit marks the first trip by a US Secretary of State to Kolkata in 14 years, following Hillary Clinton’s visit in 2012.

During his four-day India tour, Rubio is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and participate in the upcoming QUAD foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi alongside leaders from Australia and Japan.

Discussions are expected to cover Indo-Pacific strategy, defence cooperation, advanced technologies, trade partnerships, and energy exports, with Rubio describing India as a “great partner” amid evolving global challenges. Source: DD News
