Violent storms with heavy rain, hail, and lightning have killed nearly 90 people in Uttar Pradesh, according to the state disaster management department. The severe weather also injured 53 people, damaged 87 houses, and killed more than 100 livestock across several districts.
Strong winds uprooted trees, tore down billboards, and scattered debris across roads and marketplaces. Television visuals showed damaged vehicles and disrupted public areas after the powerful storm swept through the state.
Officials said many fatalities were caused by collapsing walls, falling trees, and lightning strikes during the intense weather conditions. Such storms are common in northern India during the pre-monsoon season from March to June.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed authorities to provide immediate relief and financial aid to affected families within 24 hours.
