Record 274 Climbers Scale Mount Everest in a Single Day from Nepal Side

A record 274 climbers successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest from the Nepali side on Wednesday, marking the highest number of ascents in a single day, according to Nepal’s expedition officials.

Officials said the previous record was 223 climbers on May 22, 2019. The final count could rise further as some climbers are yet to officially report their successful ascent.

Nepal has issued 494 Everest climbing permits this season, with each permit costing 15,000 US dollars. Authorities said no climbers attempted the peak from the Tibetan side this year after China reportedly did not issue permits.

Mountaineering experts have repeatedly raised concerns over overcrowding on Everest, especially in the dangerous “death zone” near the summit where oxygen levels are critically low. In response, Nepal has introduced stricter regulations and increased climbing fees to improve safety standards.

The figures are currently being verified by Nepal’s Department of Tourism through photographs and other supporting evidence before official climbing certificates are issued. Source: Reuters
