At Least 10 Dead as Floods and Landslides Strike Kenya

At least 10 people have died across Kenya after heavy rains triggered flooding and landslides, with seven deaths reported in eastern Kenya alone. Two bridges were damaged in Kwale and Kitui counties, while landslides disrupted transport in Elgeyo Marakwet and blocked the Iten–Kabarnet road.

The Kenya Red Cross reported missing persons and marooned households in Nairobi’s densely populated Mukuru Kwa Njenga area and is providing relief assistance.

Authorities have placed the lower Tana River basin on high alert, warning that rising inflows into the Seven Forks dam system could threaten downstream communities, including the Tana River Delta, home to over 100,000 people.
