India’s Media and Entertainment sector has emerged as one of the country’s fastest-growing industries and is expected to surpass 100 billion US dollars by 2030. A major contributor to this growth is the rapidly expanding AVGC-XR sector — Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality — now formally recognised as a key driver of the creative economy.
The sector gained momentum in 2022 with the formation of the AVGC Promotion Task Force, which aims to position India as a global hub for digital content creation and creative technology. The report estimates the sector could generate nearly 20 lakh direct and indirect jobs over the next decade.
States such as Karnataka and Maharashtra have introduced dedicated AVGC-XR policies focusing on skilling, infrastructure, and investment promotion. Maharashtra’s 2025 policy includes a financial outlay of over ₹3,200 crore with a roadmap extending to 2050.
Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies is collaborating with companies like Netflix, Google, Microsoft and NVIDIA to build a world-class talent ecosystem. Source: News On Air
