Middle East Tensions Persist as US-Iran Talks Show ‘Positive Signs’

Marco Rubio has said there are “some good signs” emerging from mediated peace talks between the United States and Iran, while warning that President Donald Trump still has “other options” if negotiations fail.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that 31 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours under its coordination, highlighting the strategic importance of the key shipping route.

In southern Lebanon, Israeli strikes reportedly killed more than 20 people, including four individuals at an ambulance centre in Hannaouiyah, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry and local media reports.

The United States Department of the Treasury also announced sanctions against nine individuals accused of obstructing Lebanon’s peace process and delaying the disarmament of Hezbollah.

Separately, activists from the Gaza Sumud Flotilla who were deported by Israel to Istanbul alleged signs of mistreatment during their detention in Israeli custody. Source: Al Jazeera
